The 2018 Mizzou Volleyball team got together Sunday night for the first time this summer to hold a team-building event in the form of inter-squad competitive yard games.
The team was split up into groups of four, all of which were led by one of the coaches. The yellow team, led by head coach Wayne Kreklow, consisted of senior Paige Perego and newcomers Brynn Paumen and Annika Gereau. The purple team, which was under the guidance of assistant coach Susan Kreklow, was comprised of Kayla Caffey, Andrea Fuentes and Kylie Kuyava-Deberg. The red team was led by assistant coach Josh Taylor and sported the talents of Alyssa Munlyn, Leketor Member-Meneh and Jaden Newsome. Finally, the green team, led by assistant Molly Taylor, consisted of Dariana Hollingsworth-Santana, Katie Turner and Tyanna Omazic.
Each team participated in various minute-to-win-it style games such as balloon tag, a fast-paced competition where players chased each other and tried to pop the balloons tied around the other person's ankles, an M&M relay race that required teams to transport small chocolate candies across the way to another cup after sucking them up in a straw, and corn hole, the traditional tailgate favorite that sees who can bank the most beanbags into a small hole from afar.
The highlight of the night, however, occurred when teams were tasked with pegging their respective coach with balloons filled with their team's colored paint. While it seemed the players were out to get them, the coaches were actually inclined to get messy, as each successful hit counted as a point.
When it was all said and done, Molly Taylor's green team came out victorious.
Following the backyard competition, the team had dinner together and got to know each other some more, building toward the strong bond that is sure to be formed once the seasons starts.
